Bethune Elementary STILL Needs YOU!
The Office of Mayor Kasim Reed has partnered with Everybody Wins! to launch the Power Lunch reading program at Thomasville Heights Elementary School. This literacy and mentoring program is fun, easy and has proven results in improving the reading skills of struggling students. Power Lunch is simple and works like this:
Volunteers are matched to a student for one-on-one weekly read aloud sessions that take place during the student’s school lunchtime. If you can only commit to every other week, that is just fine! Two people can partner with the same student and alternate their reading weeks.
It is a convenient volunteer opportunity because you can go to the school and back to work within your lunch “hour”.
You can be paired with a student at the following school on the day listed:
Mary Bethune Elementary, 220 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30314 (Wednesdays)
Volunteers are given training for their role as a Reading Mentor and a School Coordinator provides on sight support to assist you each week. A book cart filled with hundreds of contemporary and classic books to choose from is provided.
This is a GREAT opportunity for all of GWCCA to give back to the community. If you can, take time out of your week to make a difference in a child’s life!
