GWCCA Participates in the 2013 Downtown Atlanta Cleanup
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority participated in the 2nd Annual Downtown Atlanta Earth Day Clean Up Challenge on Tuesday, April 23rd by collecting discarded materials from the west side of Northside Drive. Over the two hour period, 20 employee volunteers picked-up 26 bags of trash and recyclables.
“We try to focus on environmental sustainability every day, not just Earth Day,” said Tim Trefzer, Sustainability Coordinator for the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. “But it’s particularly encouraging to work with our downtown neighbors for a cause that not only raises awareness about sustainability but aims to make our neighborhoods cleaner, healthier and more beautiful.”
The event concluded with an Earth Day rally at Centennial Olympic Park, where Mayor Kasim Reed, Clark Howard, and EPA Regional Administrator Gwen Keyes Fleming spoke about the importance our impact has on the environment.
