I am sad to inform the GWCCA family that Janice Reece has passed away. Janice worked for 20-years as an employee of the Atlanta Community Food Bank a company who works closely with our partner Levy Restaurants to obtain any excess/unused foods from the Center. Janice an Atlanta native, died at the age of 60 on July 29, from complications of cancer. At the time of her death, Janice was the marketing and projects director at the food bank, where she’d been working since 1990.
In the ‘90s one of her more notable roles was that she helped plan the picking up of excess food from the Olympics. After the Olympic-sized haul, Janice helped coordinate the retrieval of more than 240,000 pounds of food from the Produce Marketing Association convention that was held in Atlanta, at the Georgia World Congress Center in 1999. She eventually became director of Atlanta’s Table for several years, before she was moved to the marketing and special events department.
She will definitely be missed.
