Bargain Shopping for Healthy Foods at the Grocery Store
Buying healthy groceries is super easy if you shop somewhere like Whole Foods, but there’s a reason people call it “Whole Paycheck.” If you want to eat healthy and watch your wallet, there are plenty of options at the regular ol’ grocery store. Once upon a time, not that long ago, you had to go to the actual health food store to find a full selection of healthy options, but stores select their offerings based on consumer demand, and demand now warrants healthy choices.
One trick when shopping at the grocery store is to do the vast majority of your shopping along the perimeter of the store. This is where you’ll find the fresh produce and most of the healthy options. Luckily, many stores have their own brand of healthy foods now.
At Kroger, you will find Simple Truth, which offers many products that are natural, organic and free of artificial preservatives. If you visit the website there is an assortment of digital coupons that you can add to your Kroger Plus Card each week. Coupons on top of already lower prices is not bad!
At Publix, they have the GreenWise Market brand. These products are either organic or all-natural, and as an added bonus they also offer items that have a minimal negative impact on the environment. You can read more here.
A store you may not have even considered is Aldi. You might be surprised to find out that Aldi and Trader Joe’s are “brothers.” You can read more about their family tree here. Aldi saves the consumer money by limiting the bells and whistles (or maybe we should say eliminating!). Shopping is not necessarily a pleasure at Aldi, but you can save a tremendous amount of money. And, good news! Aldi has their very own brand of organic and all natural packaged foods called SimplyNatural.
It is going to take a bit of initial legwork but once you’ve found your favorite items you will be able to eat healthy without adversely impacting your budget. This commitment is sure to have a positive on your well being for a long, long time!
