Make a Difference…. Be a Reading Mentor at Bethune Elementary

Make a difference become a reading mentor at Bethune Elementary. During the school year, meet for one hour during lunch and read to a student either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Mentors check in with the front office and then go to the cafeteria to meet the same student every week, who should be waiting and from there, proceed to the Media Center where all reading occurs.

The four main goals of the Reading Mentor Power Lunch are to improve students’ interest in and attitudes toward reading, advance their reading related skills (e.g., comprehension, vocabulary, listening, etc.), increase opportunity for academic success of participants, and build their self-esteem and confidence.
