Turn Black Friday Green

Many of us spend Thanksgiving around a table with our loved ones, letting ourselves feast on turkey, cranberries, and pie. We try to kick back, relax, and enjoy ourselves before all the buzz of the holiday season, like Black Friday.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, and all those sales bring more cars onto the roads, causing traffic jams and stress. And who needs more stress this time of year? Plus, don’t forget that all that traffic congestion leads to tons of emissions polluting the air we breathe. What can you do to de-stress and breathe easy? Turn your Black Friday green.

  • Carpool – ride with a friend to the mall. You’ll have someone to keep you company in the congestion, and also someone to help you make important gift decisions.
  • Cyber Monday – take advantage of the biggest online shopping day of the year by never leaving home. You won’t have to worry about a traffic jam or long check-out lines.
  • Ride transit – two of our largest shopping districts, Lenox Mall and Perimeter Mall, are easily accessible by MARTA. If you only plan on picking up a couple of items, riding MARTA can get you out of traffic and crowded parking lots, while saving you a bit of gas money along the way.

You can apply these green tips to your entire holiday shopping experience as well. And don’t forget that if you work near a big shopping area, shopping traffic might give you some trouble getting to and from your worksite. The holiday season is a perfect time to try out an alternative to driving alone to make your commute a little easier. The GWCCA has partnered with Georgia Commute Options to help you save money (so you can have more to spend on your loved ones) and get home faster (to wrap all those fantastic gifts). Check out how to improve your commute at GaCommuteOptions.com.
